Throughout the week we have been focusing on how to be a good friend. I have been very impressed with your children. They were eager to share examples during circle time, and implemented their good ideas throughout the rest of the day. I heard kind words, saw some great sharing, and watched some children give up their turn doing something so that their friend could go first!
This week the "Bear Book" went home with each child. The purpose of this book is to put a face to a name when you hear them talking about their friends at school. It is also a simple introduction to reading. Even though they may not know all the words yet, they will recognize their friend's picture and feel like they are reading. This is a great opportunity for them to build their confidence as a reader.
At the beginning of the school year we talk a lot about appropriate vs. inappropriate behavior. Even though they have only been to school five or six times, they are showing fabulous behavior! They understand the classroom rules, expectations, limits, and how to deal with disappointment. You may have heard them say the simple phrase, "maybe next time." I taught them to say this phrase when they aren't able to have a turn or get something that they want. They have been doing great! I would love to hear from you about any situations you have had with them using that phrase. Every time I hear them use it, it makes my day!
Thank you again for this opportunity. I love your children!
Things to work on at home:
Name writing: Holding the writing utensil correctly, and making all the letters in their name with the first letter uppercase, and the other letters lowercase.
~We practice this at school multiple times a day, but many of them need more repetition.

How do you sit criss-cross-applesauce?
-The way we sit at circle time to stay on task
What is the talking stick?
-A special stick we hold during circle time. It is a great opportunity to
express our thoughts/ideas and build oral language. The person holding
the stick gets to talk, while the other friends practice listening.
